Welcome to Year 2!
Inspired by the work of Anthony Browne Year 2 have created their own magic mirror books. The Magic Mirror transports Toby into a strange world where everything is unusual, strange and bizarre.
We visited Gledhow Valley Woods on Tuesday, looking for Mr Fox, sadly we didn't see him but we did get to see lots of birds and other wildlife. Thank you to the adults who came with us.
Can you spot these things in the woods? And do you know what they are?
Look what we made during our Parent Pop In!
In February, our parents came in and we explored what we think the word 'PEACE' means. We wrote our responses then decorated our swirls. Miss Wadwell used our feathers to create an amazing dove for the centre of our artwork.
We have been learning about Materials this term - we made lego buildings and tested different materials for the roof. Maybe a paper roof isn't such a great idea!
We have been learning all about shape this term both 2D and 3D. Here are some of the 2D shapes we made using wool. We also made 3D shapes from nets which we made ourselves.
We had a lovely if cold and wet trip to Lotherton Hall. We learnt about Florence Nightingale and also about owls. Did you know that Florence had a pet owl?
We learnt all about Christopher Columbus. We made sailor's biscuits, tried quill writing, hunted for treasure and worked on our map skills! In the afternoon we made little boats and tried to sail them across the ocean!
Here is a timetable showing a typical week in year 2.
Please log on to the MyMaths page to find the latest homework set for Year 2. A letter has been sent home with each pupil's personal username and password.
Spellings will be tested on a Friday. In Year 2 we will base spellings on words we are learning in phonics.
Their test words will be sent home and they will complete their tests in a school book. Please encourage your children to practise their spellings using a variety of different methods, some of which we will be doing in school during our spelling lessons. See the attached document. This creative approach will help your child learn the spellings by embedding the spelling patterns so that they will then use the words correctly in their written work.
