Welcome to Year 3!
Children will need to wear their PE kits on a Wednesday.
Here is our typical timetable to show what we will be getting up to in school.
Photos of some of the things we have been doing in Year 3 so far this year!
Science - testing the reflectiveness of different properties
Ordering numbers on a number line:
Creating Maps of our local Environment
Science - testing the friction of different surfaces
Maths - representing numbers using Dienes
Growth Mindset - Can you build a pyramid from playing cards?
Here are the slides which we would have liked to talk through during a parent meeting explaining a little about what Year 3 is all about.
During the first few weeks we are learning about different animals around the world by reading 'Who are you calling weird'. We will be recapping some of the skills that we have learnt in year 2 in our writing and thinking about Place Value and starting calculations in maths.
We have also been learning about Sikhism, the golden temple has inspired some of our writing and also some artwork!
This term we are learning about the Victorians, learning about some of our local historical buildings in Leeds. Do you recognise these buildings and know where they are?

Spring 1 - Ancient Egypt
This term we will be learning all about Ancient Egypt. From the Pyramids to the Pharaohs, from the Nile to the hieroglyphics. Which part will be your favourite?
Spring 2 - Roald Dahl
We have read a number of different Roald Dahl Books this half term, including Esio Trot, The Magic Finger, Giraffe, Pelly and Me, The Twits and George's Marvellous Medicine. Make sure you ask us which is our favourite!
This term we are learning about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age. We have created our own cave paintings and dug for artefacts, finding spear heads and axe heads. We have also made our own clay beakers inspired by the Beaker people from the Bronze age. We have read and retold the book Stone Age Boy where the character time travels back to the Stone Age.
Homework - Spellings
Please check Google Classrooms for your latest spellings.
Here are some ideas to help you learn your spellings at home.
Homework - Reading
Children will have a reading book to take home, these will be book banded. Due to updated government guidance we will only be changing them on specific days. If your child will read more than one book in this time they are welcome to take two books home.
3LW on Monday and Thursday
3DA on Tuesday and Friday
In addition each child is able to access the classroom reading corner, this will be a 'tray book' and should remain in the classroom.
