Week commencing
Monday 29th June 2020

We are now in the fifth week of the Summer 2 half term! We are still so PROUD of how sensible and hard working you have been, even when school looks a little bit different. This week, we are welcoming a few more children into our Year 1 bubbles so we hope that you'll show them the new routines! Here are a couple of reminders:

  • Home learning content will continue to uploaded to our class page. Please note yellow highlight text on the WALT overview.
  • For those children who have opted to return in the coming weeks, please ensure that you have seen the video, outlining the changes to our school.
  • As mentioned on our Zoom call, Miss Alderson is looking for any feedback regarding our home learning and communication from a Year 1 perspective. We welcome and will listen to both positive and constructive feebdack to ensure that we are doing all that we can to support you and your child during this time. Please email FAO Miss Alderson.
  • The 'Phonics Actions' that we use for each sound are still available. Please email if you would like a copy.
  • Please continue to email us to say hello and to share something that you have done at home - our email is

Take care and stay safe,

Miss Alderson & Miss Harrison

Zoom meetings

We hope that you have enjoyed the last two Zoom meetings that we have had! Thank you for being super smiley and so happy to join us during our meetings. We have loved listening to all of your favourite memories during lockdown!

This week, our focus for the Zoom meetings is all about you. We would like you to write three sentences about yourself that we will share with your new teacher! Your new teachers are very excited to learn a little bit more about you. These sentences could be about anything that you would like your new teacher to know. As an example, Miss Alderson's sentences would be:

  1. My name is Miss Alderson and I am 28 years old.
  2. My family run their own gymnastics club.
  3. I have a dog called Chester!

During the meeting, we will ask each child to read their three sentences out so please ensure that your child has practised reading them before the meeting.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email

We can't wait to see you on Wednesday!

Raising awareness

A huge thank you to everyone who have sent us their rainbows to help us celebrate the different skin colours in our St. Matthew's community. We have received lots more rainbows! We will collate all of the pictures and display them on a slideshow so we can celebrate our School's diversity. If you haven't sent yours in yet, don't worry - we can keep adding pictures as we receive them. If you're wondering where to find the information from, please look at Week commencing Monday 15th June 2020.

Weekly overview

Below is the weekly overview which outlines the learning objectives (WALTs) that are going to covered in the tasks.

Here is a reminder of how our differentiation works:

  • 1 chilli mild - the easiest version of the task.
  • 2 chillies medium - the version that we'd expect most children to be able to access.
  • 3 chillies spicy - a difficult version of the task for children that require a challenge.
  • 4 chillies super spicy - the most difficult version of the task for the children that require a challenge, having securely understood previous tasks.

Please don't be afraid to hop between the different levels of challenge.
