Music

Intent statement for Music:

We can be musicians.

At St Matthew’s C of E Primary, our intention is that children gain a firm understanding of what music is and how it is created through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of cultures, historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. We want to develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and respect for a wide variety of music. We are committed to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community, and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.

We are singers; we are performers; we are composers; we are listeners; we are reviewers.

We use Charanga in school and this is an overview of what each year group studies.

Yumu is a safe online space where children can access their Charanga Music lessons from home. In the event of isolation, teachers will be using this platform to assign music lessons to children that can be accessed for learning remotely.

Yumu can also be used as tool for extra-curricular opportunities. Within the Yumu site there are a variety of packages which allow children to learn how to play a variety of instruments, take part in rhymical games and learn about many aspects of music.

Each child will be given their own login and password. Please contact your child's class teacher if they do not have this.
