Local Academy Council (Governors)

Governance Structure

As a member of Leeds Diocesan Learning Trust, St Matthew's operates within a governance framework established by the Trust. The governance structure ensures accountability, strategic oversight, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

LDLT Board of Directors

The Board is responsible for the overall governance of all schools within the Trust. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Setting the strategic vision for the Trust.

  • Ensuring financial sustainability and effective resource management.

  • Overseeing educational performance and outcomes.

  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Local Academy Council (LAC)

The school has a Local Academy Council (LAC), also known as school governors, which operates under a Scheme of Delegation determined by the Trust. The LAC’s role includes:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Trust’s vision and policies at a local level.

  • Monitoring educational standards and pupil progress.

  • Overseeing the school’s safeguarding, wellbeing, and community engagement.

  • Acting as a link between parents, staff, and the Trust Board.

Scheme of Delegation

Governance responsibilities are distributed between the Board, the CEO, and the Local Academy Council. The Scheme of Delegation outlines:

  • The decision-making powers held at Trust and local level.

  • The responsibilities of the Headteacher.

  • The level of autonomy granted to the school within the Trust framework.
