School Council
Each year a new School Council is elected at St. Matthew's. The pupils talk about what qualities a good councillor would need and then put themselves forward as a candidate. During election week, potential candidates deliver a campaign speech to their class, after which a ballot takes place. The votes are then counted, and a special assembly is held to welcome two new councillors from each class.
The School Council meet fortnightly with Mrs Molloy to discuss lots of ideas about how to support and improve our school. This may involve suggestions for the school menu, possible improvements to the playground or ways to make class lessons more exciting.
Our School Council also link with the community and visit local businesses to advertise school events and to collect contributions for our summer and Christmas events. They often represent school when special events take palce in the community, as well as when there are special events in school. Thoroughout the year our School Council also works closely with the Leeds North West Foodbank, and Meanwood Food Pantry, to collect much needed food donations for people in the local communiity.
Many of pupils in school enjoy chatting to our school councillors to share their thoughts about our school and to put forward ideas to be discussed at the meeting.

During the programme, girls experience the powerful connection between moving their bodies and how it feels. Girls move at their own pace and own ability. Parents have shared how they’ve seen an increase in their daughter’s confidence and resilience after participating in the club, both inside and outside the classroom.
