At St Matthew’s Primary School, we believe that Design Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. This will enable children to use creativity and imagination to design and make products in a range of contexts. To become resourceful and innovative citizens; children will make products that solve real and relevant problems considering the their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to link skills from in other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. Through evaluation of past and present designs children develop critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.

We aim for children to:

• develop the creative, technical and practical expertise need to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.

• build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users

• critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others

• understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
