We can be Historians.
At St Matthew’s Primary School, history is taught to help children develop a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We believe that children need opportunities both in and outside school, to see how their own lives today have been influenced by past events. As a result, our history teaching allows children to place their growing historical knowledge into different contexts and understand the connections between local, regional, national and international history.
Our history teaching will:
Inspire children’s curiosity to want to know more about the past
Create an environment which encourages children’s questioning
Allow opportunities for children to develop their chronology, understanding, communication and critical thinking skills in this subject
