Intent statement for art:
We can be artists.
At St. Matthew’s, we believe that our pupils should be encouraged to explore and express their creativity through different art, craft and design mediums embedded throughout the curriculum. We hope to inspire the pupils with diverse examples of human creativity - reflecting different cultures, time periods and styles - and then challenge them to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
Within our Art teaching, we also aim to:
• develop the pupils’ critical thinking and encourage them to see how art and design has influenced and enriched our cultures throughout history.
• experiment with and encourage proficiency in drawing, painting, textile, form, printing, pattern and digital media.
